Case Study — Custom ERP Development

A custom jewellery ERP that connects the counter to the whole business

A jewellery sale is never just a bill. The same transaction touches stock, discounts, GST, payment records, customer history and sometimes a return weeks later. For this client, Socilet founder Dheeraj Tagde built a custom ERP around all of those connected workflows — and the client paid for development only after the work was delivered.

The challenge: one business, many workflows

A jewellery business needs more than a checkout screen. Different stores can follow different pricing rules, stock moves between a godown and shops, wholesale and retail bills behave differently, and every return has to unwind stock, money and history together. The real work was making these workflows agree with each other inside one system — which store owns the stock being sold, how discounts and tax stack up, who can see which records, and how the same sale prints on both a full invoice and a thermal receipt.

    What was built

    Retail & wholesale billing (POS)

Barcode-assisted billing with cash, card, online and split payments. A strict pricing sequence — MRP, item discount, bill discount, taxable value, GST, grand total — keeps every bill mathematically consistent. A4 invoices and compact thermal receipts print from the same transaction.

    Jewellery-specific inventory

Catalogue fields for metal type, weight, purity, making charges, stone charges and hallmark details — not just product names. Store-wise stock, minimum-stock alerts, Excel import/export and full product history from creation to sale or return.

    Multi-store & godown transfers

Stock movement between godown and shops is recorded as transfer batches with references and printable challans. Multiple-firm support handles separate invoice branding, and store-level access rules decide which locations each staff member can touch.

    Purchases, ledgers & GST reporting

Supplier purchases sit inside the same system as sales, with party ledgers for customers and suppliers. CGST/SGST/IGST fields, HSN/SAC codes and GSTR-1/GSTR-2 export workflows give the accountant structured data to review.

    Returns, exchanges & refunds

A return updates stock, refund amounts and the original transaction's history — not just the bill. Credit-note workflows, cash-refund tracking and OTP-verified refund operations with audit records keep sensitive actions controlled.

    Customer portal & WhatsApp sharing

Customers get their own portal, separate from the staff workspace, restricted to their own records. Bills can be shared over WhatsApp, and SMS/OTP flows run through Authkey.io integrations.

    The technology behind it

The ERP is an interactive browser application backed by a relational database, managed authentication, storage and server-side functions — with database-level access boundaries so staff only ever see their own store's data.

    • React 18 + TypeScript
    • PostgreSQL with row-level security
    • Serverless edge functions
    • TanStack Query
    • Tailwind CSS + shadcn/ui
    • jsPDF / thermal & A4 printing
    • JsBarcode + QR scanning
    • SheetJS Excel exports
    • Recharts reporting
    • Authkey.io WhatsApp/SMS

    Built on zero advance payment

The client paid no advance for development work. Only the resources and APIs the implementation needed were funded upfront; the development payment came after completion. That is how Socilet works on every project — you approve the delivered work before any development payment is due.
