Is Zero Advance Payment Web Development Right for You?
Zero advance payment removes the client's risk, but it is not the right structure for every project. This page states plainly who the model works best for, who it does not suit, and how to decide in a few minutes — before you spend time on a call.
Eight client types where paying after approval genuinely changes the outcome.
Startups validating an idea
You need a working product or landing page before you can raise, test demand or onboard a first cohort — and cash is needed for ads and runway, not deposits.
Why it fits: Development starts on the agreed scope with nothing paid, so your capital stays with you until there is something real to judge.
Small businesses replacing an old site
You already have customers but your site is slow, unresponsive or has never brought an enquiry.
Why it fits: You see the new site running on a preview URL before you spend anything, so the upgrade is a decision, not a gamble.
Solo entrepreneurs and freelancers
You are the whole business and cannot absorb a failed project or a developer who disappears mid-build.
Why it fits: There is no deposit to lose. If the delivered work does not match the written scope, you have paid nothing for it.
First-time founders hiring a developer
This is your first build, so you cannot yet tell a good technical proposal from a confident-sounding one.
Why it fits: A live preview is a far better quality test than a portfolio. You judge the actual product before the invoice.
Local businesses and clinics
Clinics, salons, real estate offices, restaurants, law firms, coaching centres and contractors that need bookings and local search visibility.
Why it fits: Local sites are quick to scope and quick to preview, so the review-then-pay cycle is short and low friction.
International clients hiring across borders
You are in the USA, Canada, UK, UAE, Australia or the EU and hiring a team in India that you cannot meet in person.
Why it fits: Cross-border recourse is the real problem, and zero advance removes it entirely — no money leaves your country before you approve the work.
Ecommerce owners
You are launching or migrating a store on Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom stack, with payments, catalogue and shipping to get right.
Why it fits: You can test checkout, product flows and speed on a staging store before the build is billed.
SaaS founders and product teams
You need a dashboard, MVP, admin panel or marketing site alongside your product roadmap.
Why it fits: Larger SaaS builds run on the optional milestone track — each milestone is demonstrated on a live environment and paid only after approval.
Who it is not for
We would rather turn a project down than take one the model cannot serve well. If your situation is on this list, say so early and we will suggest a structure that does work.
Projects with no defined scope
If requirements will be discovered while building, there is no agreed deliverable to approve — and nothing to invoice fairly. Discovery-style engagements are better on a retainer than on a pay-after-approval model.
Clients who want unlimited free iterations after approval
Revisions inside the written scope are included. Continuous redesigns after sign-off are new work and are quoted separately.
Work needing large third-party spend up front
Paid licences, premium APIs, ad budgets, app store fees and paid hosting are billed at cost when they are purchased. Our labour carries no advance; someone else's invoice cannot.
Long enterprise projects that refuse any structure
Above US$1,500 we offer a 4–5 milestone track where each milestone is paid after it is delivered and approved. Very large builds with no milestone structure at all are not something we take on.
Rescue jobs on undocumented legacy code
Fixing an inherited codebase with no documentation is unpredictable by nature. We will quote a paid audit first, then scope the fix properly rather than guess.
Buyers choosing purely on lowest price
If the deciding factor is the cheapest possible quote, a marketplace freelancer will beat us. We compete on delivery risk and quality, not on being the cheapest line item.
A two-minute fit check
If most of the green rows describe you, the model fits.
